Wagners
Ring Cycle 1998
Parsifal
"In 2001 Brian
Gilbertson will sing the 3rd Knave in the Australian premier
of Parsifal at the Adelaide Festival Theatre, now known
as the Centre. This is the same venue where the Australian
Ring Cycle took place in 1998 and again Jeffrey Tate will
conduct."
Froh
"I was
particularly impressed by Brian Gilbertson's Froh which
was sung strongly, clearly and
pleasingly"
Opera Dec 1998,
"...strongly
sung by Brian Gilbertson...", "...a consistently
excellent caste..."
The Australian 20/11/98
"...the
superb Brian Gilbertson."
The Advertiser 8/12/98
"...played
with enormous pathos by Brian Gilbertson." Rip It
Up Magazine Nov/Dec 1998
"...the
best of local and international singers...", "...there
isn't a dull or uninteresting voice among them."
The Age 23/11/1998
"His
singers drawn from around the world are the real strength-from
the Rheinmaidens through the gods led by John Wegner's
Wotan, ... and Brian Gilbertson's Froh."
Brisbane Courier 20/11/98
"The
cast (Rheingold) was uniformly strong"
The Adelaide Review Dec 1998
"...the
hand picked caste of magnificent Wagnerian voices."
The Bulletin 8/12/98
"...the
level of consistent excellence was remarkable.. the singers
he(Bill Gillespie) assembled make a powerful dramatic
team right down to the smallest roles."
The Australian 27/11/98
Mime: cover
Jeffrey Tate
(music director)
Brian Gilbertson
has been a valuable member of the Ring company, vocally
and dramatically, not only as Froh.. but also as a brilliant
cover for Mime, singing several rehearsals magnificently.
He is surely capable of being a world class Mime, and
as a lyric/character tenor of great use to any company.
He is also a marvellously supportive colleague."
Lionel Friend
(assistant music director)
I have had
the pleasure of working with Mr. Gilbertson on the roles
of Froh and Mime (Das Rheingold and Siegfried) in connection
with the Ring in Adelaide, 1998. I have no hesitation
in recommending him for these parts, and feel confident
that Loge would also suit him well. He sings with clarity
of text (and his German is excellent) and vocal production,
and the sound projects well. He works intensively and
with great attention to detail which make him a reliable
colleague. Since he is capable of warmth as well as character
he can be invaluable to very many operatic casts.
